Something I failed to realize is that even though something is said to be yours, it can always be taken away from you. Even though I sang the solo the whole year at festivals and our christmas concert, it was given to another person to sing at the Sydney Opera House, because I was not singing it the way my choir director wanted it to be sung. It was a week before we were getting on a plane. The moment in rehearsal it was taken away from me was probably the most humiliating part of it all, because it was done angrily in front of the entire choir.
